Oh yes! LOVE it! It’s really good with ice cold lemonade on a hot summer day. Tried this last summer and loved it! Yerba is also very good in a fresh grapefruit. I have a page on this here:

There’s something called TERERÈ. It’s like drink mate, but instead of water, you must use cold lemon or orange juice. yummy

@anthonysitalianfood i recently visited my local tea store and half a kilo bag costs around 10 bucks. still quite expensive compared to US prices.

Although I’m sure it’s cheaper if you could find it at a local store. You would probably have to go to a specialty shop though.
I just use hot water and a spoon. I scrape out off the yerba and wash as best as possible with hot water. I don’t use soap. Then I make sure I dry it as best as I can with paper towels. I try not to let the gourd sit too long after I have finished drinking it. The longer you let it sit the more mold you will get in the gourd. I usually go through two thermoses of water for each gourd full of mate’. Once you have mold in the gourd it’ s pretty hard to get it out.
@anthonysitalianfood And what about cleaning the gourd afterwards? Do you empty the gourd after each use? It can get quite expensive if you fill the gourd halfways and dump the leaves after having like two drinks. And I guess it’s not ok to let it stay overnight. Also, my gourd seems to have developed some dark mold inside, any suggestions what to do about it?
oh, sorry to hear that.. it must be for sale somewhere in your area. You can sometimes find in gourmet food shops or health food shops. Good luck finding some. Yerba Mate is really great stuff. I’m just heating up some water now for my afternoon mate’
