Tea gathering in the Tang dinasty

In this wonderful tea gathering you can watch how tea was served in the late Tang dynasty, (618-907) as described in the famous book of Cha Jing of Lu Yu. In the performance you can see all the important tea utensils of the epoch. The tea was carefully stored and periodically dry roasted in a basket woven. Water was drew from springs and rivers and after carefully strained to avoid killing any living creatures, it was boiled on a charcoal brazier (ch: “fenglu”) in a water boiling pot. Many types of tea were stored in form of pressed tea bricks and after grinding it in a tea-grinding mortar and sifted in a silver sifter, tea was added to water by a heavy silver tea spoon. You can see on the video the use of the heavenly beings decorated sifter and the spoon. Often salt was added to the water to change the bitterness of young tea leaves in sweet taste. After mixed properly , the frothy tea was scooped out in wonderful jade tea bowls. Tang dinasty tea on this video is performed by Didi Ryu – Golden Damo Tea. Please, enjoy it
